Activity Level – Moderate – The Silky Terrier needs regular exercise. Although they appear to be a dainty dog, they are actually feisty and even rugged. They need daily exercise and will enjoy being outside in the dirt. A fenced in area is ideal for the Silky Terrier so they can run freely and seek out small game. They are excellent watchdogs because they are quick to alert you of anything suspicious.
Shedding– Low – A Silky Terrier has a long coat but actually requires very little maintenance. A simple brushing two to three times a week will suffice. Also they really only need a bath once a month to maintain a healthy coat. They are one of the lowest maintenance long haired dog breeds.
Family Friendly– Yes- A Silky Terrier is a family friendly dog. However, it may be better suited for individuals that do not have small children, because a Silky Terrier is not fond of being pestered by small children.
Pet Friendly – Yes – Silky Terriers are great with other dogs when they are socialized at a young age. As long as your dog is over 6 months old and is up-to-date on its immunizations a dog park may be a great way to have your Silky Terrier interact with other dogs in a healthy manner.
