Lifespan – 8 to 10 Years. English Bulldogs have been known to live longer than ten years. However, their average lifespan is between eight to ten years. These furry friends live life to the fullest.
Activity Level – Low to Medium as adults. Medium to High as puppies. They exercise for about 20-40 minutes each day when they are adults. However, when they are puppies they will be happy to exercise well over an hour. Make sure you read important breed information further down on the page.
Potential Height – 15 to 17 Inches Tall. English Bulldogs are very stocky. They do not grow very tall but they do grow bigger in overall mass. As a matter of fact, they have more body mass than any other dog their same height.
Potential Weight – 48 to 54 Pounds. Full grown females will usually range from 45 to 50 pounds. Full grown males will weigh 50-55 pounds.
Barking – Rarely. English bulldogs are more likely to whine when upset than they are to bark. They rarely ever bark which is ideal for people who have neighbors nearby.
Shedding – Moderate. They do not shed very much as puppies, but they will start to shed more as they grow. English Bulldogs will shed more if they are not getting enough Omega-3 fatty acids in their diet. Omega 3’s can be found in fish. It is recommended to feed them a food that has fish as one of the primary ingredients.
Family Friendly – Yes. They are in the top ten most family friendly dogs list. Kids love them, because they are affectionate and playful. Furthermore, they are sturdy so your kids are not going to hurt them.

Breed Origins – The origin of the English Bulldog is widely debated. However, the most widely accepted historical account is that the Bulldog was bred to fight bulls during the 13th century. It is said that they descended from one of the largest dogs in the canine kingdom, the mastiff. They were once used to control bulls and take down large prey. They were once the primary breed involved in the atrocious bull baiting sport. Due to their origins and breeding they are short but very strong both mentally and physically.

Important! English Bulldogs should not be left outside in the heat. They are a short snouted dog and cannot breathe quickly enough to properly cool themselves. You should limit their time in the direct sun especially in the summer.
