Lifespan – 13 to 15 years – The Cairn Terrier has a long lifespan and will be a loyal companion.
Activity Level Moderate to High- The Cairn Terrier is always on high alert and ready to be active at the drop of a hat. They need 30 minutes of rigorous exercise each day to stay mentally healthy so they don’t get too restless or anxious. Their instincts are to dig and chase. They are sturdy enough to hold their own on a farm yet small enough to live in an apartment.
Height 9-10 inches tall at the shoulder. They are a small breed but incredibly stout and sturdy. They are far more resilient and strong than other small breeds.
Weight 13-14 lbs when they are full grown. Pound for pound, they are one of the most versatile dogs in the canine kingdom.
Barking – Moderate to High- The Cairn Terriers instinct is to bark, chase, and dig. They will chase any and all small game like rabbits, squirrels, or birds. That is one of the reasons they really thrive outdoors. They love the game of chasing game.
Shedding – Moderate – The Cairn Terrier has more coarse and wiry hair than some other terriers. Their hair is more water resistant than other terrier breeds.
Family Friendly Yes – The Cairn Terrier thrives in a family environment. They love the noise that comes along with families. They are one of the few breeds that actually loves a noisy and whta some would categorize as chaotic environment. They are very intuitive and intelligent too. They are careful and conscientious around yound children. Hands down, one of the most family friendly breeds that exist.
Pet Friendly – Yes – They get along great with other dogs, but will definitely chase other small animals such as cats.
